Here we try and answer some of the questions which we are asked most frequently. If you have any other questions why not give us a call or fill in our Online Question formHow long has spray foam insulation been in use? Polyurethane spray foam insulation has been in use in the U.K. since the 1970's as a roof bonding and stabilising material. Our installers have over 20 years combined experience of installing spray foam to domestic properties. Do you leave ventilation in my loft after spraying? Yes. A continuous air gap is left at eaves level after the installation of spray foam, in accordance with standards. Will spray foam cause my timbers to rot? Spray foam insulation will not cause roof timbers to rot when installed to a property. The spray foam itself has the same 'breathability' as hard wood so does not cause rot. If the timbers are in a sound condition before the installation, spray foam will not cause them to deteriorate in any way. Does spray foam provide a fire risk? Our spray foam provides far less fire risk than the wooden elements of the roof. The system has been tested to British Standards and found to have a class 1 fire rating. This means that the foam is effective in resisting the surface spread of flames. What happens if a tile on my roof breaks after spray foam has been installed? After the installation of spray foam, the roof is bonded together as a continuous structure. This means that any impact damage to tiles, from falling objects etc, should be greatly reduced. If something was to break a tile on the roof, it is possible to change the tile but will take more effort. We recommend cutting the foam out from the inside in order to remove the tile, when replaced the tile can be sprayed back in place.
